Horag Racing Finishes Second in LMP2 in 1000 km of Spa and leads the Michelin Energy Endurance Challenge

Spa, Belgium, May 11 - Spa, Belgium, May 11 - Horag Racing placed a strong second in the LMP2 class Sunday in the 1000 Kilometers of Spa Le Mans Series race at the Circuit de Spa Francorchamps after leading the class for more than two hours of the race.
Horag Racing's No. 27 finished on the same lap as the class winner, the Porsche RS Spyder fielded by Van Merksteijn Motorsport, as both completed 138 laps. What's more, the Horag team was only 10.387 seconds behind the class winner at the end.

Theys qualified fourth on Saturday in a session delayed by three red flags. He had to abort what would have been his fastest lap in quals due to a red flag, but he still qualified with a 2:06.955, just 0.606 of a second slower than third. Fredy Lienhard decided not to drive in this race due to back pain, so Jan Lammers and Didier Theys of Scottsdale did all the driving in the race.

Lammers started the race, Theys drove wo stints in the middle and Lammers finished the event, which was held under warm and sunny conditions and attracted some 35,000 spectators. For the bulk of Sunday's race the LMP2 class battle was between the Van Merksteijn Porsche, the Horag Porsche and the Speedy Racing Team Lola Judd. The latter had difficulties around the 114-lap mark, opening the door for Team Essex to move up. For the rest of the race, the battle was on between the Dutch and the Swiss team.
"For a long time it looked like we would have a chance" said Lammers, "because we were expecting that the Van Merkstejn Porsche had to come in for a splash and dash, but when the safety car went out again and neutralized the race we were definitely beaten. A honest and just result. Our team did a super job, fast pitstops and a car running without any problems. It always hurts to finish second, but we will have to make do."

The Horag Racing RS Spyder is currently classified 3rd in class of the LMS championship and leading the Michelin Energy Endurance Challenge, a championship which is based on the fuel efficiency. The chassis which totals the highest number of points of the MEEC championship will win an official entry to the 2009 Le Mans 24Hours.

As a part of the support programme of the Nürburgring 24 hour race, the red and white RS Spyder will do a show run on the Norschleife.

The next LMS race will be the Nürburgring 1000km on August 15-17.
