It was only natural that the idea to revive the 1,000 km-races came from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the motto of which is "endurance-racing is Le Mans". So, since last season, LMS offers cars complying with the A.C.O technical regulations a 1,000 km-race programme on Europe’s most prestigious circuits. This series comes in addition to the American ALMS series and the indisputable flagship 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Furthermore, the two winners of each category are directly selected to participate in the following Le Mans 24 Hours.

Team spirit together with long distance performance, as embodied by the Le Mans 24 Hours, is the credo of the "Le Mans Series". As a most legendary race, the French event's duty is to offer its competitors a full season to race their cars and contain the costs. Furthermore, the choice between GT and Prototype cars gives them the opportunity to compete in a first-class series according to their means.
